The Jeanne Sauvé Foundation is pleased to invite you to attend DiversiTable: Bringing Cultural Communities Together for Restaurant Day on Saturday, May 21, from 12-5 pm.
Join us for this unique Jeanne Sauvé Forum event, part of the Building Inclusive Communities for Refugees: A Public Leadership Challenge series, which explores the Sauvé Fellows’ chosen theme of refugee integration in Canada.
In honor of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation will host a pop-up restaurant as part of Restaurant Day in Montreal. Both of these global initiatives present opportunities to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity, while sharing new experiences and cultivating our common living environments together.
On May 21, 2016, the Sauvé Fellows will host DiversiTable, a pop-up restaurant at 4648 Rue Chambord, Montréal, QC H2J 3M7 (back alley). They will prepare an international menu comprised of delicious dishes from their home countries (Nepal, Pakistan, Iran, India, Congo, Bosnia and Canada) and invite the Montreal community to come and learn about their cultures, their stories, their team project and its outcomes, while enjoying a unique meal.
DiversiTable is also a fundraising and integration project in collaboration with McGill University’s International Community Action Network (ICAN), a key community actor, as well as refugee and non-refugee volunteers, in order to raise funds for their community-building projects, such as the International Master’s in Social Work (MSW) Fellowship. All proceeds collected during DivertiTable will benefit ICAN and its MSW Fellowship Program.
This event represents one of the Sauvé Fellows’ Team Project key themes: community involvement, a core component of building strength, trust, and connectedness in a community. Food brings people together and breaks down socio-cultural barriers, so DiversiTable will provide a great opportunity to share ideas and stories in a communal space, while promoting cultural diversity and community building.
