As a social worker, Sauvé Scholar Guy Milongo presented a project focused on researching new approaches for the social reinsertion of school children. He was inspired to reflect on the topic by the African proverb « it takes a village to raise a child ». During the presentation, Guy reported on his Sauvé Year. He first explained his country’s situation, followed by the lessons learned from social intervention experiences in North America that could be adapted to the context in the DRC by highlighting the organisation and the regulations of social work, the coordination and the follow up of the activities of the NGOs involved in the sector and raising the awareness of the Congolese community in order to engage them in the protection of children in their community. This is all done from an ecosystem perspective, where different elements and players play a role in the reinsertion and protection of children.
