Biography

Shivangini (Shivvy) is originally from Bangalore city, where she won state ranking in Economics and English and started her journalistic endeavours.

Following her Sauvé fellowship, Shivvy was selected as one of six non-EU candidates worldwide to receive a global grant from the European Commission and the International Consortium for Media to study and work in Europe. She holds a specialised European MA in Global Media, and was chosen as one of twenty outstanding young journalists in Europe to attend an international reporting workshop in Prague on global economics.

In 2009,  Shivvy joined the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) in London, U.K. as as Multimedia Editor, and in 2011 was named Communications Manager (Global). Prior to the IBLF, she worked with Thomson-Reuters, U.K., first as a multimedia reporter, producing news and editorial output for their Business and Finance portfolio, and subsequently as Business and Finance Website Editor. Prior to her work at Reuters, Shivvy was a foreign correspondent for various media outfits such as CNN’s Asia-affiliate channel, Reuters and UTVi.  From interviewing the late soul icon James Brown to producing and anchoring a half-hour TV special on poverty, no two days were ever the same.

A seasoned international public speaker and debater, she was chosen to be a delegate at Harvard University’s ‘HPAIR 2006’ forum which discusses issues relevant to the Asia-Pacific region.

As a Fellow

Shivangini served as Senior Editor at the McGill International Review, reported stories for the university’s broadcasting station, and held a two-month internship with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in production and research of business, technology and lifestyle segments broadcast on Canada Now, an evening news show. This led to her development and anchoring of Global Vocal, a video commentary on the impact and role of media as viewed by global young achievers, produced in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). From there she went on to become an online columnist  (blogger) on themes of youth, media and culture with the Citizen Shift program, an international initiative of the Film Board and devised a video commentary for the NFB.
