Amalie Kestler

Amalie is from Denmark, where she received her BA in Journalism from the Danish School of Journalism. While growing up, Amalie lived in Uummaannaaq, Greenland, for four years. She spent a year as an exchange student in California, where she polished her English; she also speaks German, Swedish and Norwegian, in addition to Danish.

She worked as front page editor at the leading Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende. Before that she held the position of political editor of the National Danish News Agency, Ritzaus Bureau. She has done political reporting from the Prime Minister’s visits to Iraq, Afghanistan, Beijing, Shanghai as well as Washington. Amalie has written extensively on the future of the Social Democratic Parties in Scandinavia. Apart from her job, Amalie has completed a course on leadership in the Danish Media World.

During her time in Montreal, Amalie followed classes at McGill in Political Science, Middle East Politics and American Politics – all of them led by excellent teachers. She also wrote a contribution to a book on Danish Political Journalism and Communication, which was published in Denmark. Her contribution was on the relationship between politicians and reporters and offered suggestions about how to make this relationship more constructive.
