Giovanni Gabassi holds a Masters degree (magna cum laude) in international and diplomatic sciences from the University of Trieste, and a Masters of advanced international studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. He has worked on issues of multilateral diplomacy with a number of organizations, including the Central European Initiative Executive Secretariat in Trieste. Through an internship at the Delegation of the European Commission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), he honed his diplomatic skills and expanded his knowledge base, which enabled him to take on the position of European Union Presidency Advisor at the Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the OSCE. His fields of interest include post-conflict rehabilitation in South Eastern Europe and conflict prevention. He has also lectured on negotiation theory at the University of Trieste.
After completing the Sauvé Program, Giovanni attended a 2-week training course on UN Peacekeeping Operations offered by the Université du Québec à Montréal, Faculté de science politique et de droit, observatoire sur les Missions de paix de la Chaire Raoul-Dandurand en études stratégiques et diplomatiques.
While in residence at Sauvé House, Giovanni researched post-conflict rehabilitation in South Eastern Europe, conflict prevention and negotiation theory.
