Kini is from San Diego, California, U.S.A. and is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (1994) where she majored in Mass Communications. She works as a media specialist in New York City, specializing in media relations for issue-driven organizations.
Prior to her post at The Nature Conservancy, she worked for the American Civil Liberties Union and UNICEF-USA. For her work at UNICEF, she traveled to many locales, including Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Palestinian Territories and Bhutan to gather stories about children’s issues in the developing world. She and her team-mates at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF won the grand prize at the Bulldog Reporter 2006 Hall of Fame.
Kini is a communications professional over 15 years of experience in nonprofit, government and corporate settings. She has a successful track record of executing communications goals, as well as a demonstrated ability to communicate complex and controversial concepts to internal and external audiences. She has worked to build partnerships with media, communities, corporations, donors and governments.
Kini believes that everyone needs an advocate, especially those whose voice could easily be ignored or silenced. She is passionate about world issues and advocating for vulnerable people who would have no voice, or would go unseen and unheard.
