Malinda is from Australia, where she earned a BA/BCom (Hons) from the University of New South Wales, Sydney with first class honours. Her expertise straddles the worlds of banking, parliamentary democracy, international development and corporate responsibility. “Malinda has demonstrated her passion for social justice and for the pursuit of practical strategies to effect change in the Australian community,” writes one of her referees. Malinda started her career in the Financial Services Group of Macquarie Bank, where she worked during her undergraduate years. She then spent a year working in Nepal on microcredit, first in a small rural NGO then for the national Micro Entrepreneurs Development Program (UNDP). On her return to Australia, Malinda spent two years working as a media officer then adviser in the Office of the Leader of the Federal Opposition for the Australian Labor Party. During this time she spent two weeks in the British Labour Party Headquarters in London on a political exchange. After travelling through South America and Europe in 2005, Malinda then joined the St James Ethics Centre, a leading Australian think tank where she worked as a Project Manager of the Corporate Responsibility Index. “We need a new model for civic engagement,” says Malinda, who aims to examine the contribution of interest groups and think tanks to public debate in Canada. “Montreal is a key location for organizations created to measure and address the information paucity often present in mainstream policy debate.”
