After completing the Sauvé Program, Shakhnoza returned to Tashkent and was involved in the United Nations Development Program, in Uzbekistan. She currently works as an instructor at La Cité Collégiale, in Ottawa.
Shakhnoza completed her graduate studies at Carleton University and obtained her Masters degree in international affairs. Her thesis focused on the Islamic revival in post-Soviet Uzbekistan and issues of religious resurgence. In 2007-2008, she completed internships with AUCC and DFAIT in Ottawa. Shakhnoza has been actively involved in the organization of international conferences and events. She has also been assisting a Carleton professor with research on multi-ethnic Soviet cities and Central Asian migrants in the Soviet Union.
