On 26 April 2012, Scholar Sadia Rafiqqudin gave a public lecture and launched her photo exhibit entitled Wilderness Walk Reflections at Sauvé House.

Earlier this spring, Sadia had accompanied Innu Elder Elizabeth Penashue (Tshaukuesh) on her last annual Wilderness Walk, a journey into Labrador’s Mealy Mountains. Traveling in the traditional Innu way, by snowshoes and toboggans, the Wilderness Walk is a symbol of Innu dedication to protecting the land, the children and the Innu way of life.

During her presentation, which was attended by a broad audience of friends of the Foundation, Sadia shared reflections about her remarkable journey, conveyed lessons imparted by her guides, and displayed photographs of the people and places she saw along the meshkinou (path).
